Zed Champion Overview and Assassin Guide
Explore Zed's assassin identity, when his side-lane and pick pressure fit a draft, and what lockdown and vision can shut him down.

Zed Counter Strategy & Strategy (Patch 16.11)
When to Counter Zed
Pick Zed when the enemy draft has squishy backliners, limited point-and-click crowd control, and side lanes that can be pressured through fog. He fits best in compositions that want to fracture the map and punish mispositioning instead of only playing front-to-back teamfights. Zed also makes sense when your team already has enough waveclear or engage elsewhere and needs a finisher.
How to Counter Zed Strategy
Do not panic on the first shadow if Zed still has multiple ways to disengage after his burst. Hold reliable crowd control for the moment he reappears from Death Mark or commits past his safe return points. Vision around side lanes and jungle entrances matters because Zed is far less threatening when he cannot choose his angle unseen.
Zed Targeted Build Strategy
Knowing Zed's ideal items helps you build optimal counters.
Zed Key Weaknesses
Zed is built around committing to one target and leaving, so failed assassinations can leave him with little influence in the rest of the fight. He also struggles more when games become tightly grouped and his burst cannot cleanly remove a priority carry.
Worst Matchups for Zed
Lissandra, Malzahar, Galio, Pantheon, and Vex consistently make Zed's job harder by surviving his entry or locking him down the moment he appears. These matchups punish both his predictable re-entry points and his need to commit for lethal pressure.
Best Champions Against Zed
Nocturne, Elise, Lee Sin, Pyke, and Yuumi pair well with Zed because they either reinforce his picks or help him survive long enough to finish a target and leave. Their follow-up turns his burst windows into cleaner kills and faster map tempo.
Zed Counter Tips & Summary
Zed is an AD assassin who takes over games through shadow-based access, fast burst onto isolated targets, and strong side-lane pressure. He offers reliable threat against immobile carries, but his value drops sharply when enemies hold lockdown and deny him clean exits after diving in.
