Yasuo Counter Strategy & Strategy (Patch 16.11)

When to Counter Yasuo

Pick Yasuo when your draft already has multiple knockups or displacement tools that make Last Breath easy to threaten in every fight. He is especially strong in skirmish-heavy games where minion waves, jungle camps, and close spacing give him plenty of dash options. Yasuo also fits compositions that want a carry who can punish projectile-heavy teams with Wind Wall.

How to Counter Yasuo Strategy

Do not fight Yasuo in stacked waves or clustered skirmishes where he can dash repeatedly and choose angles freely. Save hard crowd control for the moment he commits past his safe movement options rather than throwing it while he still has room to weave. Fighting him away from minions and avoiding obvious knockup setups removes much of his comfort.

Yasuo Targeted Build Strategy

Knowing Yasuo's ideal items helps you build optimal counters.

Yasuo Key Weaknesses

Yasuo depends heavily on nearby units and clean positioning to maintain mobility, so empty space makes him much easier to pin down. He also has to commit into close range for most of his damage, which leaves little margin for error against layered peel.

Worst Matchups for Yasuo

Renekton, Pantheon, Lissandra, Malzahar, and Poppy consistently make Yasuo's job harder by denying his movement or locking him down the moment he steps in. These matchups punish the close-range commitment and timing precision that his carry pattern requires.

Best Champions Against Yasuo

Diana, Gragas, Alistar, Wukong, and Malphite are ideal partners because their knockups and forced clumps give Yasuo direct, repeatable entries into fights. Their engage lets him skip the hardest part of his job and start dealing damage immediately.

Yasuo Counter Tips & Summary

Yasuo is a mobile melee carry who wins through wave-based movement, sustained critical damage, and explosive follow-up on airborne targets. He offers strong skirmish carry potential and unique projectile denial, but he is vulnerable when waves disappear or crowd control catches him mid-commit.
