Xerath Champion Overview and Draft Guide
Understand Xerath's artillery identity, when his poke-heavy drafts work best, and what flank pressure and mobility shut him down.

Xerath Counter Strategy & Strategy (Patch 16.11)
When to Counter Xerath
Pick Xerath when your team wants to soften fights before committing and the enemy composition lacks reliable long-range flank access. He is especially effective in siege, objective standoffs, and drafts that appreciate wave control from well outside retaliation distance. Xerath also fits compositions that already have engage elsewhere and simply need a mage who punishes every slow approach.
How to Counter Xerath Strategy
Do not let Xerath play one uninterrupted front-to-back screen where he can keep firing from maximum range without pressure. Side-angle engages, fog control, and quick collapses are stronger answers than slowly walking through his poke. Once he is forced to move repeatedly or cast at short range, much of his advantage disappears.
Xerath Targeted Build Strategy
Knowing Xerath's ideal items helps you build optimal counters.
Xerath Key Weaknesses
Xerath has almost no mobility and relies on keeping enemies far enough away to fully leverage his range advantage. He also depends on structured spacing, so sudden dives or multi-angle pressure can leave him with little room to answer.
Worst Matchups for Xerath
Fizz, Nocturne, Hecarim, LeBlanc, and Akali consistently make Xerath's job harder by reaching him through or around his poke windows before he can fully control the fight. These matchups punish his lack of self-peel and his need for uninterrupted distance.
Best Champions Against Xerath
Ashe, Jhin, Caitlyn, Maokai, and Varus pair well with Xerath because they add long-range setup, vision control, or reliable slows that make his artillery much easier to land. Their utility turns his poke from chip damage into repeated kill pressure.
Xerath Counter Tips & Summary
Xerath is an artillery mage who dominates games through extreme range, lane harassment, and constant pressure on grouped or immobile targets. He offers elite poke and siege value, but he is fragile and collapses quickly when enemies survive the approach and reach him.
