Vayne Counter Strategy & Strategy (Patch 16.11)
When to Counter Vayne
Pick Vayne when the enemy team fields durable frontliners or short-range threats that she can outmaneuver once fights stretch out. She fits best in drafts with strong peel, patient front-to-back setups, or support champions that can cover her weak lane until she reaches safer damage windows. Vayne also makes sense when your team wants a side-lane duelist from the ADC slot later on.
How to Counter Vayne Strategy
Pressure Vayne early with wave control and range so she has to farm under threat instead of choosing her own trade timings. In teamfights, attack from multiple angles rather than letting her kite a single front-facing approach with tumbles and condemn threat. Denying wall angles and forcing her to react defensively lowers much of her outplay value.
Vayne Targeted Build Strategy
Knowing Vayne's ideal items helps you build optimal counters.
Vayne Key Weaknesses
Vayne plays at short range for a marksman, so she needs more precise spacing and more protection than long-range ADCs to deal damage safely. She also has weak lane push, which can leave her pinned under tower or late to early objective setups.
Worst Matchups for Vayne
Caitlyn, Ashe, Varus, Draven, and Senna consistently make Vayne's job harder by outranging her, controlling waves first, and punishing every step she takes toward farm or trades. These matchups attack her weakest point before her mobility and scaling can take over.
Best Champions Against Vayne
Lulu, Janna, Braum, Milio, and Maokai pair extremely well with Vayne because they protect her short range and create the stable kiting space she needs to win extended fights. Their peel and disengage let her focus on outplaying forward instead of surviving first contact.
Vayne Counter Tips & Summary
Vayne is a hypercarry marksman who wins through short-range outplay, repeated repositioning, and sustained damage that tears through frontlines and duelists alike. She offers exceptional carry potential in extended fights, but her lane phase and limited wave control can be punished before she gets space to scale.
