When to Counter Riven
Pick Riven when the enemy team lacks reliable point-and-click lockdown and your draft benefits from a bruiser who can pressure both side lanes and midgame fights. She thrives in games with frequent skirmishes, fragile backliners, and enough allied setup that she does not always have to be the first body in. Riven also makes sense when the opposing top side cannot easily punish her mobility-driven trade patterns.
How to Counter Riven Strategy
Do not give Riven free melee contact where she can cycle cooldowns, shield trades, and keep chasing after the first knock-up. Hold crowd control for the moment she commits past her safe exit rather than throwing it while she still has dashes available. In longer fights, forcing her to spend mobility defensively lowers both her burst and her ability to keep target access.
