Poppy Champion Overview and Draft Guide
See when Poppy is the right draft answer, how her anti-dash kit and peel work, and what range and poke patterns reduce her impact.

Poppy Counter Strategy & Strategy (Patch 16.11)
When to Counter Poppy
Pick Poppy when the enemy team leans on dashes, dive patterns, or mobile carries that normally slip through standard frontline control. She is especially useful in drafts that need a tank who can both start skirmishes and protect the back line from repeated entries. Poppy also makes sense when terrain-heavy fights around jungle and objectives are likely to decide the game.
How to Counter Poppy Strategy
Avoid fighting her near walls and do not commit mobility spells blindly into Steadfast Presence where your engage can be turned against you. Long-range poke and spacing make Poppy much less effective because she prefers close, messy fights with obvious angles to disrupt. Forcing her to walk in first instead of reacting to your dash also reduces a lot of her natural value.
Poppy Targeted Build Strategy
Knowing Poppy's ideal items helps you build optimal counters.
Poppy Key Weaknesses
Poppy's most punishing moments come from enemy movement choices and terrain proximity, so calmer open-space fights can limit her ceiling. She also offers less sustained damage and less proactive reach than tanks that can threaten from longer distance without needing a wall or dash denial.
Worst Matchups for Poppy
Vladimir, Swain, Cassiopeia, Kennen, and Azir can all make Poppy uncomfortable by fighting from ranges and patterns that do not rely on the mobility she wants to punish. These champions reduce the importance of her anti-dash identity and force her into harder walk-up fights.
Best Champions Against Poppy
Orianna, Tristana, Kai'Sa, Yasuo, and Taliyah pair well with Poppy because her wall stuns and anti-dive control create perfect follow-up windows or keep mobile threats locked in place. Their damage or terrain control makes her disruption far more decisive.
Poppy Counter Tips & Summary
Poppy is a tanky disruptor who punishes mobility with steadfast denial, terrain-based crowd control, and strong peel or engage depending on the fight. She offers unique anti-dash value and dependable front-line disruption, but she can struggle to force action against long-range teams that refuse close quarters.
