Briar Counter Strategy & Strategy (Patch 16.11)

When to Counter Briar

Pick Briar when the enemy team lacks layered peel and your draft can follow aggressive all-ins the moment she reaches a target. She is especially effective against squishier backlines and skirmish-heavy games where one committed engage can spiral quickly. Briar also fits comps that already have some setup and want a jungler willing to force violent early-midgame fights.

How to Counter Briar Strategy

Do not panic when Briar commits; instead, guide the fight into peel, terrain, and layered crowd control that punish her locked-in aggression. She is far less scary when her dive path is predictable and leads into prepared teammates rather than isolated carries. Vision around side routes also matters because surprise angles make her access much more difficult to manage.

Briar Targeted Build Strategy

Knowing Briar's ideal items helps you build optimal counters.

Briar Key Weaknesses

Briar's biggest strength is also her biggest flaw: once she goes in, her control over the fight becomes much narrower than that of more flexible divers. She also struggles against disciplined peel because she needs sustained contact to justify her commit.

Worst Matchups for Briar

Janna, Poppy, Lissandra, Rammus, and Tahm Kench consistently make Briar's job harder by interrupting, redirecting, or absorbing her forced dive pattern. These champions punish the fact that she has to commit more honestly than most assassins or bruisers.

Best Champions Against Briar

Galio, Orianna, Yuumi, Rell, and Nocturne pair extremely well with Briar because they either reinforce her first dive or make the chaos around it much harder to survive. Their follow-up turns her reckless-looking engage into a coordinated collapse.

Briar Counter Tips & Summary

Briar is a diving skirmish jungler who overwhelms fights with relentless pursuit, self-sustain, and powerful backline pressure once she commits. She offers strong pick threat and brutal chase patterns, but her frenzy-driven entries can be punished hard by teams that control where she goes.
